University of Wyoming Launches Bitcoin Research Institute

The University of Wyoming is set to launch its Bitcoin Research Institute in August. This new institute aims to provide high-quality studies and reviews on Bitcoin.

Bradley Rettler, a Bitcoin activist and professor at the University of Wyoming, announced the new institution on X on July 28. He will serve as the director of the institute.

Rettler highlighted the current state of Bitcoin research as inadequate and emphasized the need for more high-quality publications and reviews to ensure accurate information about Bitcoin and its functionality.

He referenced a 2018 study led by Professor Camilo Mora from the University of Hawaii, which claimed Bitcoin emissions could raise global temperatures by up to 3.6°F (2°C) by 2048.

“These errors have seeped into journalism and policy. Bitcoin encompasses many theoretical and practical aspects. Journalists cannot be experts and rely on academics, but many academics have been disappointing,” Rettler stated, as quoted by Cointelegraph on July 30, 2024.

Andrew M. Bailey, author of “Resistance Money: A Philosophical Case for Bitcoin,” is among the professors at the institute. Rettler is also listed as a co-author of the book.

The Bitcoin Research Institute will officially open in August, coinciding with the start of the Fall semester for 2024-2025.
