Does Oily Skin Still Need Moisturizer?

Langgam Pos - Many people with oily skin believe that their skin does not need moisturizer, fearing that it might lead to excess oil production and clogged pores. However, Fanny, the founder of Cosmo Colony (Co.Co), reveals that this assumption is not entirely accurate. She explains that even those with oily skin should use a moisturizer.

"Oily skin also needs moisturizer. The role of a moisturizer is to hydrate without causing excess oil," Fanny told Kompas.com during the Local Joy event at Menara Kompas.

Fanny clarifies that the purpose of a moisturizer for oily skin is not to increase oil production but to balance it. "Moisturizers help regulate oil production, ensuring it remains normal and not excessive. Ingredients like ceramides can also help balance oil levels in the skin," she adds.

Choosing the right moisturizer is key for those with oily skin. Fanny advises selecting a lightweight moisturizer without extra hydration ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid. This ingredient is better suited for those with dry skin who need more nutrients.

"If your skin is very oily, I wouldn’t recommend using a moisturizer with high levels of hyaluronic acid, as it could lead to even more oil production," says Fanny.

Instead, she recommends moisturizers with antioxidants and Niacinamide for oily skin. These ingredients can hydrate the skin while helping to manage oil production.

"For an alternative, look for moisturizers with Cerabeads, Camellia sinensis extract for antioxidants, and Niacinamide. These ingredients help moisturize the skin without overdoing it," Fanny explains.

"Additionally, they aid in improving skin texture and reducing acne since they help control oil production," she concludes.
