Jokowi's First Night at the IKN Presidential Palace: Admits to Unsettled Sleep

Langgam Pos - On Sunday, July 28, 2024, President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, spent his first night at the IKN Presidential Palace in East Kalimantan. Previously, Jokowi had stayed in glamping sites or ministerial residences during his visits to IKN, but this time he chose to sleep at the presidential palace.

Jokowi admitted that he had a restless night, as it was his first time staying at the IKN Presidential Palace. "Last night I slept here at the IKN Palace. I didn’t sleep well. I’m speaking honestly," Jokowi told reporters at the IKN Presidential Office in the Central Government Core Area of East Kalimantan on Monday, July 29, 2024.

During his previous visits to IKN, Jokowi usually stayed in glamping sites or ministerial houses. However, he opted for the IKN Presidential Palace this time. "Maybe it’s just because it’s the first time, it’s still not quite comfortable," he said.

Jokowi was working at IKN for the first time today, Monday. He is scheduled to work at IKN for three days. "This morning, the President will receive guests/audiences and hold meetings in his office at the IKN Presidential Office, just like his daily activities at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta," explained Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, to reporters on Monday.

Jokowi is expected to hold meetings with the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) and meet with the East Kalimantan regional coordination forum (Forkompimda). "The President plans to meet with the OIKN officials accompanied by the Secretary of State and the Minister of Public Works and Housing. He will also meet with the East Kalimantan Forkompimda," Yusuf added.

Meeting Delays as Jokowi Awaits Ministers

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) began his work at the Nusantara Capital (IKN) on Monday, July 29, 2024. However, it has been confirmed that today’s agenda does not include a limited meeting or a cabinet session.

Jokowi mentioned that such meetings could take place once all ministers who are currently abroad return to Indonesia, such as those attending the Paris Olympics, including Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

"Meetings will be held once all ministers are back in the country because many are still in Paris," Jokowi said as he was heading to IKN on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

"Regarding the first cabinet session at IKN, we are waiting for the ministers who are abroad to be present," Jokowi added.

Previously, Presidential Secretariat Chief Heru Budi Hartono addressed rumors about President Joko Widodo holding the first cabinet session at IKN on July 30, 2024. Heru mentioned that the details would be clarified by the Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung. However, preparations are underway to accommodate the cabinet session if it takes place at IKN.

"We are currently organizing everything for the cabinet session, which might be explained later by the Cabinet Secretary," Heru said to reporters at the Presidential Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

"Whether there will be a cabinet session or not, we at the Presidential Secretariat along with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing are preparing everything needed for the office there," he added.
