Discover the New Entrance to Candi Jawi: A North Gate Access

Langgam Pos - Candi Jawi, situated in Prigen, Pasuruan, has become a popular destination not only for academic studies but also for recreation. The ancient temple, a remnant of the Singhasari Kingdom, is bustling with visitors daily who come to appreciate its serene surroundings and capture memorable photographs.

Recent updates to the site include a change in the entrance to the temple. Visitors can now access Candi Jawi through the northern gate, a shift from the previous entrance located at the front or eastern side. This new access point offers a more convenient parking area away from the roadside, allowing for a more relaxed visit.

Constructed in the 13th century, Candi Jawi was built to house the ashes of the last Singhasari king, Kertanegara. The temple features a unique design with a Shiva-like base, Buddha-like shoulders, and intricate reliefs on its walls. With its slender, towering structure similar to Candi Prambanan in Central Java, the temple measures 14.24 by 9.55 meters in width and stands 24.50 meters tall. The temple's entrance faces east, indicating that it was not intended for worship.

Candi Jawi is prominently situated along the Jalan Raya Pandaan-Prigen, the road leading to the popular Tretes tourist destination. The temple's towering presence commands attention, making it easily noticeable for passersby. Many travelers who initially drive by often find themselves stopping to explore the site.

The picturesque setting is further enhanced by a pond filled with fish and adorned with blooming lotus flowers. The temple's striking appearance is complemented by the majestic backdrop of Mount Arjuna, Welirang, and Penanggungan.

Visitors make the most of the stunning scenery by taking photographs from various angles and capturing selfies with the temple as their backdrop. "The view is beautiful, and the ambiance is serene," remarked Fatmawati, a visitor from Pasuruan, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

The site attracts visitors from both within and outside the city, including from Surabaya, Mojokerto, and Sidoarjo. Entry to Candi Jawi remains free of charge, making it an accessible and appealing destination for those seeking to experience its historical and natural beauty.

"This is my first visit here. I’m making the most of it," said Rohman, a visitor busy preparing his camera.
