Gatot Siswanto, the Head of Toyoresmi Village, explained that the ritual aims to foster communal bonds among residents. He emphasized that the event also serves as a reminder for the community to engage in charity during the Muharram month.
“The goal is to encourage people to give alms. We hope this will lead to prosperity and blessings for everyone, both in this world and the hereafter,” Gatot shared with detikJatim.
Gatot noted that, in addition to the tofu mountain provided by the organizers, local residents also contributed their own harvests, resulting in a total of 13 mountains of various produce.
Alongside tofu, the mountains included corn, rice, and an assortment of vegetables, all eagerly sought after by attendees.
Susi, a local resident of Toyoresmi, expressed her joy at participating in the village cleansing event. She joined in the scramble for the tofu mountain, hoping that the occasion would bring blessings for her family throughout the year.
“I’m looking forward to receiving blessings for myself and my family,” Susi remarked.
