Langgam Pos - Microsoft has officially announced the gradual phase-out of the Control Panel, a feature that has been a staple of the Windows operating system for 39 years. The company is encouraging users to transition to the more modern Settings app.
As reported by Mashable on Sunday, August 25, 2024, this move may not come as a surprise to many Windows users. Since October 2020, Microsoft has been gradually steering users away from the Control Panel in favor of the Settings app.
In supporting documents, Microsoft stated that the Settings app offers a more modern and efficient experience. The Control Panel, which has been a part of Windows since 1985, has traditionally served as a centralized area providing access to tools and settings needed to configure various functions, manage resources, and monitor performance and security. On computer operating systems and web hosting platforms, the Control Panel has allowed users to:
- Change system settings
- Manage user accounts
- Edit accessibility options
- Modify the date and time stored in the machine's BIOS
- Change the time zone
- Decide whether to synchronize the date and time with an Internet Time Server
However, with this announcement, all these functions will be transitioned to the Settings app. The Settings app, introduced with Windows 8 in 2012, has been gradually taking over many of these functions.
While Microsoft has announced the phase-out, there is no official date yet for the complete removal of the Control Panel. Nevertheless, Windows users are encouraged to prepare for the eventual discontinuation of this long-standing feature.
