Microsoft to Discontinue Windows Paint 3D After 8 Years

Langgam Pos - Microsoft has announced that it will discontinue the Windows Paint 3D application by the end of 2024, with the program being removed from the Microsoft Store starting in November 2024.

The 3D graphics program was first introduced as a replacement for the classic Paint application eight years ago, in November 2016, alongside the launch of Windows 10 Insider Build 14971.

Microsoft Paint is a user-friendly graphic editing application in Windows designed for creating, editing, and manipulating images. Paint can be used for:

- Cropping simple images

- Resizing images

- Drawing

- Adding basic shapes and text to images

- Creating caricatures

- Designing birthday invitations, greeting cards, and similar items

- Outlining and coloring images to make them more appealing

Paint is one of the default applications in Microsoft Windows, though its appearance may vary across different versions of Windows.

Microsoft is advising users to switch to Paint and Photos for viewing and editing 2D images and to 3D Viewer for viewing 3D content.

"Paint 3D is no longer relevant and will be removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024. Existing installations of Paint 3D will continue to function, but the app will no longer be available for download from the Microsoft Store," said Microsoft, as reported by Bleeping Computer on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

"If you uninstall the app, you can reinstall it from the Microsoft Store until November 4, 2024," Microsoft added.

Why is Paint 3D being discontinued? The primary reason is its decline in popularity. Although initially appealing, Paint 3D failed to capture the attention of most Windows users, many of whom preferred the simplicity of the classic Paint software.

After this date, Paint 3D will no longer be available for download. The program was pre-installed on some Windows 10 devices but was not included on Windows 11 devices.
