Langgam Pos - The Pew Research Center has released a survey on the global levels of religiosity, and Indonesia has emerged as the most religious country according to the findings.
The survey, conducted between 2008 and 2023, encompassed 102 countries and regions, examining the general importance of religion in people's lives. The Pew Research Center highlights that the question of how important religion is in daily life provides significant insights into the level of religiosity.
Published on August 9, 2024, the survey results reveal that the most religious countries are predominantly located in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East-North Africa region. Conversely, the least religious areas are found mostly in Europe and East Asia.
In countries like Senegal, Mali, Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, Rwanda, and Zambia, at least 90 percent of adults consider religion a crucial part of their lives. In stark contrast, the majority of European countries report that religion is not very important to most of their populations.
In Estonia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Latvia, and Finland, only 10 percent or fewer adults say that religion is very important in their lives.
South and Southeast Asia show varying patterns, unlike the more consistent trends seen in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. In Indonesia, nearly all adults say that religion plays a vital role in their lives. However, other Southeast Asian countries show much lower percentages. For instance, only 36 percent of Singaporeans and 26 percent of Vietnamese view religion as very important.
Meanwhile, in the United States, 42 percent of adults consider religion to be very important in their lives, which is below the average of 55 percent across the 102 surveyed areas.
