Jokowi Highlights Three Key Sectors for Collaboration with Ghana President

Langgampos.com - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized three primary areas of cooperation during a bilateral meeting with Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The meeting took place in the Casablanca Room at Hotel Mulia Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday, September 2, 2024.

The discussion between the two leaders focused on strengthening the 65-year-old bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Ghana. President Jokowi warmly welcomed President Akufo-Addo to Indonesia and expressed his appreciation for the ongoing partnership.

"The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Ghana has flourished for 65 years, and we must continue to strengthen it, especially in three key sectors of cooperation," Jokowi stated, as quoted in a press release on Monday.

The first sector Jokowi highlighted was health collaboration. He expressed his support for the partnership between Indonesia's Bio Farma and Ghana's Atlantic Lab Science, hoping it would boost local vaccine production in Ghana and support vaccination programs in other African nations.

Secondly, Jokowi sought President Akufo-Addo's backing for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on food and drug supervision between the regulatory authorities of both countries. The President hopes this MoU will enhance synergy in the pharmaceutical sector between Indonesia and Ghana.

In the energy sector, Jokowi proposed further collaboration, particularly in oil and gas exploration. He mentioned the possibility of establishing an oil refinery in Ghana with Indonesian involvement, which could add value and meet Ghana's energy needs.

Lastly, Jokowi underscored the importance of development cooperation, aligning with Ghana's specific needs. He highlighted Indonesia's willingness to cooperate with Ghana through mechanisms such as Indonesia Aid, which includes technical support, scholarships, and vocational training programs.

President Jokowi was accompanied at the meeting by several key ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Investment Minister/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, and State Secretary Minister Pratikno.
