Ripple Co-Founder Backs Kamala Harris for U.S. Presidency Amid Crypto Industry Support

Langgampos.com - Chris Larsen, co-founder and senior executive at the cryptocurrency exchange Ripple, has reportedly signed a letter endorsing Kamala Harris for president. Other prominent executives said to have signed include former 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch, Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, and BOX CEO Aaron Levie.

This news follows the recent departure of Ripple board member Gene Sperling from the White House to join Harris’ campaign. The growing support from the crypto industry reflects the belief that Harris would be a president who supports the rapid growth of American businesses.

According to a report from Altcoin Buzz on Saturday, September 7, 2024, Larsen's endorsement aligns with Harris’ rising popularity in the crypto world.

David Plouffe, former Binance executive, has also joined Harris' campaign. Both Harris and Trump have identified the crypto industry as an important demographic. Trump notably made headlines at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville, where he gained the backing of key figures on Wall Street and in private sectors, including Elon Musk and Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick.

Trump has expressed intentions to make the U.S. the global capital for crypto. During a speech at the Economic Club of New York on September 5, billionaire Trump stated, “Instead of attacking future industries, we will embrace them, including making America the world’s capital for crypto and Bitcoin.” He also pledged to appoint Musk to lead a government-backed task force on digital assets.

Musk later tweeted, “I’d be honored to serve America if given the opportunity. No salary, no title, no recognition needed.”

Kamala Harris to Accept Crypto Donations

Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas recently confirmed that Kamala Harris, the U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, will use Coinbase's Commerce platform to accept cryptocurrency donations. Haas announced this during the Citi 2024 Global TMT Conference in New York, stating that Future Forward, a super PAC supporting Harris, has already joined Coinbase Commerce.

Although Harris' campaign has yet to comment, this marks a significant shift for the Democratic Party, which, under President Joe Biden, has been less crypto-friendly compared to the Republican Party. Recent lobbying efforts, however, could change this stance.

Haas told Yahoo Finance, “She’s accepting crypto donations. She’s using Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto for her own campaign.” Despite this, advocacy group Crypto4Harris was unaware of the integration, and Harris’ official fundraising site currently does not show this feature.

In June, Future Forward, a Harris super PAC, announced it had raised $50 million in support of her campaign.
