Can Indonesia Join the World's Top 7 Economies? Prabowo Sets an Ambitious Goal

Langgampos.com - Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized Indonesia's immense advantage in natural resources, positioning the nation for a promising future on the global stage.

A Wealth of Natural Resources

Prabowo Subianto highlighted Indonesia’s abundant natural resources as a key driver for economic growth. Its wealth in minerals, agricultural produce, and vast maritime potential places Indonesia in a unique position to compete as a global economic power.

"Indonesia is in a highly advantageous position, possessing nearly all the critical elements required by developed nations," said Prabowo at the 2024 Annual Meeting of Bank Indonesia (PTBI) in Jakarta on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Global Recognition of Indonesia's Potential

Prabowo cited the consensus among global economic and geopolitical experts, who project Indonesia to emerge as one of the world's largest economies, potentially ranking fourth to seventh within the coming decades.

A significant strategic asset for Indonesia lies in its reserves of critical minerals, essential for high-tech industries. Prabowo stressed the role of financial institutions, regulators, and government authorities in maintaining economic stability and fostering sustainable growth.

"Global experts agree on Indonesia's potential to become a developed nation. Our critical minerals are highly valuable to advanced technology-driven economies. Therefore, the role of banking, regulators, and the government is crucial to ensuring economic stability," he explained.

Growing International Recognition

Prabowo also underscored the growing international respect for Indonesia. He noted that this recognition stems not from his short tenure as president but from Indonesia’s consistent economic achievements.

"Although I’ve been in office for less than a month, the world’s respect for Indonesia is remarkable. Nations from Latin America and Africa, such as Angola and Congo, are eager to learn from Indonesia’s experience," he said.

Recent visits from the presidents of Angola and Congo, along with Tanzania’s acknowledgment during the G20 Summit in Brazil, underscore Indonesia’s reputation for prudent, stable, and effective economic policies.

Prudent Economic Management

Prabowo attributed Indonesia's success to well-planned and prudent economic strategies. He called for gratitude and collective efforts to sustain these achievements.

"My point is that we must be grateful because our economic management is recognized globally as wise, orderly, and secure," Prabowo concluded.

As Indonesia sets its sights on joining the ranks of the world's top seven economies, the road ahead is undoubtedly challenging. However, with strategic resource management and sound policies, the vision might just become a reality.
